Mission Designer, Map Designer, & Writer
I was responsible for four of the campaign missions on Halo 2. Specifically, the Arbiter, Oracle, Delta Halo, and Regret missions occupying the first half of the game. As a mission designer, I was paired with an environment artist and worked with them to define the gameplay spaces. I would then script the encounters and narrative moments.
The videos linked here are (lengthy) playthroughs of these missions. Below that, I have a slideshow of assorted design sketches and documents. This includes the calculations I made to convince myself and others how long the Arbiter would remain in freefall before a gas mining facility reached terminal velocity as it fell into the gravity well of a gas giant. This was the first and only time I made use of what I learned in undergrad.
I also wrote all the mission dialogue for these missions, which can be found in the spreadsheet below. These were later marked up by production for the recording and localization pipelines.
Finally, we released the Multiplayer Map Pack between Halo 2 and Halo 3. I worked on two maps: Relic and Backwash. For Relic, we were trying to create a single-flag CTF map that shifted the peak of conflict to the flag return, since other such maps would often have the conflict peter out as the flag got further from its base and the defenders had further to go to catch it upon respawn. It was modestly successful. For Backwash, the artist was interested in creating a small map with visibility limited by heavy fog. It was not very popular with fans, unfortunately.
