Metroidvania-Style Shooter
Creative Director
After leaving Bungie, I co-founded a studio alongside two other Bungie alumni (Damian Isla and Michel Bastien). Our goal was to bring our AAA sensibilities to the downloadable game space, on platforms like XBLA. We initially spoke with publishers about projects leveraging their existing IP, but we actually got more interest when we talked about our own.
We ended up signing a deal with Jerry Bruckheimer Games, which was in partnership with MTV Games. JBG handled the day-to-day production duties while MTV signed the checks. The game was codenamed Project Chimera, and later named Fallen Frontier. It was a Metroidvania-style game most easily summarized as Halo in 2D with light RPG elements. I handled all aspects of design and fiction, including the scripting of all gameplay systems in Lua. The lengthy GDD and story bible can be found below, along with videos of our trailers and first cinematic.
Unfortunately, the project (and studio) fell victim to larger corporate maneuverings. Literally one week after our green light meeting, Viacom announced it was selling Harmonix and shuttering MTV Games.
